What is LDM?
In road transport, loading meters (LDM) are commonly used as a measurement unit. The transportation costs for any cargo transported using a curtain-sided trailer are determined based on loading meters.
This unit of measurement is primarily used in road transport across Europe.
LDM is calculated using the following formula:
Cargo Length×Cargo Width÷2.4=LDM
(2.4 meters being the standard trailer width).
For example, a Euro pallet measuring 1.2 m × 0.8 m results in:
(1.2×0.8)÷2.4=0.4 LDM
The most commonly used truck length in Europe is 13.6 meters, which allows for the practical loading of 33 Euro pallets (0.8 m × 1.2 m).
Maximum trailer capacity:
- Euro pallets: 33
- Finnish pallets: 26
- Industrial pallets: 22
- Maximum payload: 24,000 kg
